Official Confirmation: Singapore Secures Hosting Rights for 2026 MotoGP Season Global Launch Event
Dorna, the official promoter of MotoGP, has confirmed that the 2026 MotoGP season global launch event will be held in Singapore in February 2026. This global launch will officially kick off the new era of the Free Media era.
Strategic Choice: Why Singapore?
According to the minutes of the Team Coordination Meeting held in Barcelona, Singapore ultimately prevailed over Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne in the final selection process.
The decision balanced global promotional impact with logistical feasibility. While Kuala Lumpur offered proximity to the Sepang circuit, Melbourne’s distance would have strained team resources. Singapore ultimately emerged as the ideal compromise, leveraging its status as a premier international hub and its proven hospitality capabilities.
Seamless Integration: Asia-Pacific Test and Launch Ceremony
Pre-season Test: Scheduled for February 2-4 at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia.
Shakedown Test: To be conducted beforehand at the same venue.
Efficient Relocation: Following the Sepang test, team equipment can be transported by land to Singapore within approximately four hours, ensuring full readiness for the February 5 launch ceremony. This streamlined “Malaysia testing-Singapore showcase” workflow significantly optimizes operational efficiency for teams across the Asia-Pacific region.
Pending Agenda: Second Test Location Remains Key Uncertainty
The official briefing lists the specific location and timing for the second pre-season test as “to be confirmed.” The primary focus is currently on Thailand’s Buriram Circuit, with two options under consideration:
Option A (Efficiency Priority): Proceed directly after the Singapore launch ceremony to maximize development time for the March 1 season opener.
Option B (Cost Priority): Postpone testing by approximately 10 days to alleviate scheduling and financial pressures on teams.
The final decision will depend on subsequent negotiations between teams and Dorna, directly impacting each team’s strategic preparation timeline for the season opener.
